Subject: PRIMARY LEIOMYOSARCOMA OF LEFT BREAST
Date: Monday, June 15, 1998 2:17 AM

Greetings everyone. I feel really lucky to have so many friendly people
willing to share their personal stories of leiomyosarcoma. My name is
Susan and I am from Australia (Queensland's Gold Coast). In September 1992
I discovered a golf ball size lump in my left breast - they said it was
just a large fibroadenoma but still it should come out because of it's
size. In December 1992 it was removed - but it had tripled in size in that
time and there were two tumours (next to each other in the upper-outer
quadrant of my left breast - one approx 6cm and another approx13cm - from
memory). Three days later I was diagnosed with Primary Leiomyosarcoma
(high grade).

I did not have a mastectomy or any further surgery - all I had was a
lumpectomy, no chemo or radio. I have had no recurrence to date but do
have a sore/bruised feeling to my left breast.

I believe that sarcoma in the breast is uncommon and of the 87 letters I've
read on your site, no-one else has had breast leiomyosarcoma. I was given
a poor prognosis of approx 2 years but am fine so far. The doctor I had
was a really nice man.

I would really like to hear from anyone who were told after their first
surgery that all the primary tumor was removed successfully, only to have
it return 7+ years later.

Where does it come from if, after thorough removal of the primary tumor,
full body scans show no further tumours anywhere in the body?

Many thanks for setting up this website - it's great.

Good luck everyone.

Susan.
