Kent,
My story discloses in a similar way. I get shoulder pain in
early 1996. I use
ice and other cold remedies to relieve the pain. This works fair for
sometime up until
the summer of 1996. I run the Spring Lake 5 mile race as I have for the
past 15 years.
My time is horrendous so, I use the excuse that I am way at of shape (50
minutes , usual 38 to 44 minutes).
The summer goes by and finally I visit an ortrapedic doctor. He takes MRI
of right shoulder. I visit and he feels that all I need is chiropracter and
physical therapy. I proceed as prescibed. Finally , I call and tell doc,
the pain is too strong. You must cut me and look at the rotor cuff that he
felt it was all along. Two days before surgery I am coughing. Call my
regular doc and he fets chest X ray. Black mass on lower right lung, next
day get cat scan. The next day at Sloan Kettering for inspection because
this doctor was old buddy with Ginzburg , head of throat surgery at Sloan
Kettering CC.
Not to make a long story brief but , one week later biopsy
needle. One week later cancer malignant. They tell me leiomeisarcoma. How ,
smoked as teenager but, I as you began the arduous task of research. After
a while , I thought perhaps the good Lord was wanting me to pursue
medicine. Oncological study of cancer , I may even pursue it someday. I
began to gain great faith from Anne Frahm's , "A Cancer Battle Plan". I
became an avid juicer, in a short time I had my last steak, bummer for a
meat and potatoes Irishman. I drank green tea , juiced carrot apple and
kale cocktails so frequently that I started to show signs of permanent tan.
I unlike one of your stories , 195 lb. 6'-1" guy did not waste away to
nothing. I really believe that we get cancer from pesticides on our
produce, not to overlook all the chemicals we induce from todays livestock.
Throw away your microwave and buy a juicer.
So my 36 th birthday was spent for 5 days at Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Ginzburg cut a grapefruit sized tumor out of
me. Lower lobectomy right lung removed along with diaphram, and 3"
esophagus muscle. Made it a wee bit hard to swallow at first but, not to
get biblical Galtians 3:13, Matthew 8:17,Peter 2:24, the Lord has healed me
for know.
This year I am spending my anniversary running a five
miler, hope to break 40 minutes. I believe in the power of fellowship and
support from other cancer survivors. I grow each day and pray for all those
afflicted with this disease.
Peace and love Jimmsingh@aol.com
