Subject: LMS and update
Date: Monday, April 20, 1998 11:29 PM

Dear Ken:

I wrote back several months ago about my mother who had LMS. She was first
diagnosed in 194 with uterine leiomyosarcoma that metastasized to her lungs in
1997. In April and June of last year she had two thoracotamies removing the
nodules form her lungs. Again the LMS has returned to her lungs(8 nodules)
and it was discovered after going to MD Anderson that she had a very large
tumor in her kidney. After much deliberation and consulting with different
medical specialist she has decided to do chemo. Though radiation is still not
a very effective form of treatment for those with LMS chemo in the past couple
of years has shown to be 50-60% effective for those with uterine
leiomyosarcoma. My mother will be receiving her chemo treatments in Houston
due to the fact she will be part of protocol that involves the use of growth
factor( clinical phase). If chemo doesn't show to be effective she will then
have surgery to remove the nodules from the kidney and lungs. Surgeries is
still the most effective way to rid patients of this disease. My only prayer
is that this chemo will work for my mom and that there will be more success'
in the medical field when dealing with LMS.
I am happy that you are doing well and are free of LMS. Cancer can really put
a strain on relationships and I am happy you and your wife are working through
this and are together once again. I keep reminding my mom that its the trails
in life that make us stronger and bring us closer to the Lord.

May God Bless You!!! Keep us updated on your web site.
Hugs and prayers.
